Max and I (Dee) bought our first donkey, as
a pet, in September 1998. Well, the problem with miniature donkeys is they
are addictive. One led to another, and another. As of December 2006 we have
70 donkeys. Each one with their own personality, all are loved and
appreciated.
We keep 30 plus brood jennets, a few young
jennets, 5 herd sires, a few geldings, and there are always a few babies
around. We have about 20 babies a year and love every one of them. The
hard part is letting go when we sell them. We are still building our herd
and expect to add more donkeys.
We manage to make it to about one show a
year. So far we have done very well in the show ring. In 2005 we took 7
donkeys to the state fair. Our donkeys placed in the following classes:
1st and 2nd
place mature jacks (we took 2)
1st place mature jennets (we
took 1)
2nd place young jacks (we took
1)
2nd and 4th place
young jennets (we took 3)
1st and 5th in
driving
Reserve Grand Champion
5th in color class

We have won several awards and earned honors through hard work and love of
the miniature donkey. The most notable of these awards and honors
include: 2005 Horse of the Year on Equusite, VHOF from the American Donkey
and Mule Society in 2006, and Ambassador for the Breed from the National
Miniature Donkey Association in 2006. And there's more to come!
Our farm is in the beautiful Ozarks in a
somewhat secluded location. We have 88 gently rolling acres with plenty of
shade trees for the donkeys. We live a peaceful life with donkeys all
around.
Our donkeys have been selected for
conformation and we have excellent pedigrees with a variety of
bloodlines as well. There are donkeys of just about every color and in
sizes from 29” to 34 ¾”.
Our love of the miniature donkey caused Dee to seek out others desiring a
miniature donkey association. The MMDBA (Missouri Miniature Donkey Breeders Association)
was formed in January of 2005.
By the end of the year there were 80 paid members of the association. Dee
remains the Chief Administrative Officer. The
association does public appearances, parades, fun shows, seminars, works
with local and Missouri State fairs on donkey shows, and does other fun and
educational
activities.
